Submission and receipt of application for Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
In order to obtain a visa, you need to be issued a "Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status" by the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Justice.
The application for the COE will be submitted on behalf of the applicant by the Global Center The University of Nagano.
The necessary application documents will be sent to the contact person at the host university, so please submit them by the deadline.
After receiving the COE from The University of Nagano, I will send the original document to the relevant department at the host university.
*If the Immigration Bureau does not issue a Certificate of Excellence (COE), your exchange program at this university will be cancelled.

Visa application
After receiving your Certificate of Entitlement (COE), please apply for a "Student" visa at the Japanese embassy or consulate general that has jurisdiction over your country or region of residence. The required documents vary depending on your country or region of residence. Some of these documents may take time to prepare, so please contact the Japanese embassy or consulate general as soon as possible.

Booking an airline ticket
The most convenient way to access The University of Nagano is to take the Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo using either Haneda or Narita Airport. You will be notified of your dormitory move-in date approximately 1-2 weeks before the start of classes. Please check the academic calendar for the start dates of classes for each semester.
Arrival in Japan
After arriving in Japan, please travel to Nagano Station by train or Shinkansen at the designated date and time. Nagano Prefectural University students and staff will meet you at Nagano Station. The cost of public transportation will be the responsibility of the student.

Other Information
Driving a car, part-time job
Driving a vehicle is prohibited in principle. Also, part-time work for financial reasons is generally not permitted. However, if you intend to engage in activities outside your authorized status, such as paid cultural activities or volunteer work, you must consult with the Global Center in advance.
About the buddy system
Exchange students can receive support from a buddy student at our university.
We will support you in all aspects of your study abroad experience, including daily life, studies, culture, and environment, to ensure it is fulfilling.
