Department of Child Development and Education
Childcare professionals are in a profession that requires continuous learning. Through university studies, we aim to cultivate individuals who will become future leaders in childcare and early childhood education, by acquiring the expertise and practical skills necessary to create new approaches to childcare and solve challenges in childcare and parenting.
In Overseas Program, participants will experience Finland's advanced childcare practices, which are set in a rich natural environment similar to that of Nagano Prefecture. They will also deepen their understanding of childcare from a global perspective by comparing it with natural, social, and cultural backgrounds.

Student Interviews / Student's Voice

Fourth-year student Department of Child Development and Education (at the time of the interview)
Takagi Suzune
I wanted to enter the childcare field, armed with the experience I gained from four years of study.
Over the course of four rich years, we will explore childcare from not just one perspective, The appeal of the Department of Child Studies lies in the fact that students can consider, learn about, and actually practice childcare from multiple perspectives, including the perspectives of children, parents, local characteristics and resources, and even perspectives from childcare practices overseas beyond Department of Child Development and Education. is.
Furthermore, with 15 specialist professors for approximately 40 students in each grade, and opportunities to study in Finland, a leading country in education, through Overseas Program, I was able to deeply study the childcare field that interested me and broaden my perspective on childcare. In the community service circle "Gurunpa," students planned a family concert in Iizuna Town from scratch and participated in activities with the NPO "Enmaru."
Through these activities, I've become less afraid of interacting with people and of taking on challenges. That's how I feel.

As you go through university life, be open to the new interests, discoveries, and passions that arise within you.
When I gave up on classical ballet, which I had studied until high school, I was introduced to the cuteness of children while helping out in a preschool class. Currently, in my seminar, I'm researching children's self-expression through physical expression. I am also interested in special education and am learning in detail how to support children who require special attention.
Furthermore, through my part-time job, I had the opportunity to interact with children with disabilities and came to appreciate the joys of diversity. In the future, I would like to study abroad and learn about childcare practices around the world.
