[Important]Information regarding dormitory admission for the 2026 academic year (Updated January 29, 2026)
Social skills and communication abilities developed through dormitory life in the first year
Located in the heart of Nagano city, Gocho Campus "Zozan Dormitory" was formerly Gocho Elementary School. It is a student dormitory where students learn together, help each other, and cultivate communication skills, initiative, and social skills.
At our university, all students experience dormitory life during their first year. Some students who can commute from home or those who are not good at communicating with others may wonder, "Why do I have to live in a dormitory?" Living independently in a communal setting tests all kinds of human skills, including teamwork, perseverance, and communication with peers.
As a physical mechanism for fostering human potential, the dormitory is comprised of three living spaces: two-person rooms that cultivate empathy, 16-person units that foster acceptance of diverse values and tolerance, and a learning hub that allows for interaction with dormitory residents from different faculties and departments, and helps them develop good study habits.
Furthermore, on the soft side, we offer programs that also serve an educational function. We have a variety of programs, such as cross-cultural exchange with international students and the Zozan Future Academy, which invites professionals from a wide range of fields, including business, local communities, and sports, as guest speakers. It's not just about living in a dormitory; it also serves as a place for career education through discussions, group work, and experiential programs.
The adjacent multipurpose hall of the city-owned facility houses and displays floats used in festivals such as the "Nagano Gion Festival," and is visited by local residents. The students not only interact with their dormitory mates but also actively participate in local events, thereby enhancing their sense of community.
At "Zozan Dormitory," students learn from and support each other through dormitory life, naturally developing initiative, social skills, and communication abilities. For students who are not very good at interacting with others or who want to improve their communication skills, it is an excellent opportunity to grow. Living together with peers is not just a living space, but also "another school" where you can acquire insights and learn things that cannot be obtained in the classroom, and cultivate your human qualities.

Everything students experience while living in a dormitory becomes a source of growth for them.
Dormitory life offers a variety of activities, including dormitory festivals, sports competitions, and local events. The dormitory festival, held with the cooperation of local residents, allows students to learn the importance of connecting with the community through activities such as club concerts and interactions with local children.
Furthermore, the sports tournaments planned and prepared by first-year students, such as basketball and futsal, provide an opportunity for students to interact with each other, transcending the boundaries of the units in which they live together.
The stimulation students receive from being exposed to diverse values and ways of thinking, and the sense of accomplishment they feel when they create something together with their peers, are invaluable resources for their growth.

Building a foundation for university life and support from resident assistants
I believe that building networks that foster friendships and a sense of belonging across different faculties and departments, while students live together, significantly impacts their mental well-being during their student life. It's reassuring to know that "everyone is a stranger" on campus. Understanding others and cultivating empathy leads to cooperation and tolerance.
In addition, Resident Assistants (RAs) who have experience living in dormitories live with the residents, providing support for dormitory life, offering counseling, and assisting with studies. They work in cooperation with the university to ensure that residents can live and participate in activities independently and cooperatively.
