New support system for higher education (tuition fee reductions and grant-type scholarships)
1. Overview
1. Regarding the institutions covered by the new higher education student support system
Since the 2020 academic year, a new student support system has been implemented for students excluding international students, based on the "Act on Support for Studying at Universities and Other Institutions," and our university is an institution eligible for this new higher education student support system.
2. Overview of the New Student Support System
The new system expands the scope of eligible recipients and the amount of support compared to the previous Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) grant scholarships. Furthermore, it now includes tuition fee reductions, resulting in a significant increase in the total amount of support when combined with the grant scholarships. (The free tuition for families with multiple children, starting in fiscal year 2025, is also part of this new student support system.)
To receive support under this system, you must apply for a grant-type scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and be certified as eligible. The amount of tuition and other fee reductions will be determined based on your certified support category. (The amount of grant-type scholarship support is divided into four categories based on household income, etc.)

3. About the system
Regarding the household income criteria, you can use a simulation tool on the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) website to estimate the amount of support you may receive. This will help you determine whether or not you are eligible for this program.
2. Current students
Regarding recruitment while enrolled in school
Regarding applications for grants and tuition fee reductions, a guidance session is scheduled for the beginning of the academic year, so please be sure to attend if you wish to apply.
3. New students

Furthermore, in order to receive a reduction or exemption of entrance fees and tuition fees, you must submit a tuition fee reduction/exemption application form, so please be sure to submit it.

scholarship
1. Loan scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
There are two types of scholarships: Type 1 scholarships (interest-free) and Type 2 scholarships (interest-bearing). Students who excel in both character and academics, are in good health, and face financial difficulties in continuing their studies are eligible for scholarships to cover their educational expenses. Depending on their financial situation, some students may be eligible for both Type 1 and Type 2 scholarships.

The process after being hired (loan type)
- Submission of a return pledge
After your acceptance is confirmed, you will be required to submit a "Repayment Pledge." Please be aware that if you do not submit it by the deadline, scholarship payments will be stopped and your acceptance will be cancelled. - Changes in personnel or monthly fees during the loan period
If your student status changes due to taking a leave of absence, withdrawing from school, studying abroad, etc., and you wish to change the monthly loan amount or decline the scholarship, you will need to complete the necessary procedures using the prescribed form. Please contact the Student Support Center as soon as possible. - Procedure for requesting continuation
During the loan period, you are required to submit a "Scholarship Continuation Request" online once a year (around December to January). If you do not submit it by the deadline, your scholarship will be terminated, so please be sure to complete the procedure. After you submit the "Continuation Request," we will review your academic performance and other factors to determine whether or not you will be eligible to continue your scholarship for the following year. - Procedures upon termination of loan
Please receive your "Loan Scholarship Repayment Confirmation Form" and proceed with the application process for joining the "Relay Account."
2. Scholarships from local governments and private educational support organizations
Scholarships offered by local governments and private educational support organizations are sometimes advertised through the university, and sometimes advertised directly by the organizations themselves. Important information regarding scholarships
Information regarding the application process, selection decisions, procedures, and information sessions for various scholarships will be posted on bulletin boards and The University of Nagano website.
