Messages from Graduates
Employer: Hachijuni Bank, Ltd.

Yutaro Yamamoto
Being a member of the first graduating class of a newly established university is a huge challenge. And now, from there, I'm taking my first steps into society.
I joined Hachijuni Bank, which has its base of operations in Nagano Prefecture, and was assigned to the Takasaki branch. Every day is filled with learning and absorbing new tasks, and I've even found senior colleagues I look up to. I want to be someone who can focus on increasing our customers' assets, do what needs to be done, and quietly support the growth of my subordinates.
When I was in high school, I vaguely wanted to work in the aviation industry, but I couldn't decide on a career path. Around that time, I had the opportunity to hear about The University of Nagano at my high school. It was a newly established university. I was drawn to the professors and curriculum described in their brochure. There are many reasons why I'm glad I enrolled at The University of Nagano. For example, the professors actively engage with students. Learning from such professors was the most enjoyable experience. I chose the most rigorous seminar at The University of Nagano, known as "Gachi-Zemi," and deepened my learning for three years.
In my second year, I studied abroad in Manila, Philippines, as part of Overseas Program. In my third year, I researched corruption and the power of conglomerates in the Philippines for a collaborative thesis, and I wrote the paper together with my fellow researchers.
Even during the final interview with three executives from Hachijuni Bank, which was the final stage of my job search, I was able to proudly say, "I studied diligently in what is considered the most demanding seminar at university."
Looking back, perhaps the biggest challenge during my university years was "choosing a new university with no seniors, no track record, and pushing forward as the first graduating class, completely clueless about what to do."
I managed to get through the job hunting process while carrying the burden of a relatively unknown brand, as there were no alumni or alumnae.
I was able to show my juniors a path that is characteristic of The University of Nagano.
I believe that this is largely due to the professors at The University of Nagano who constantly encouraged me to take on challenges, taught me to learn from my failures and correct them, and used them to fuel my next endeavors. I want to express my gratitude for that and use it to fuel my next challenge.

Building upon my university studies, I would like to challenge myself by studying English and meteorological disasters.
My motivation for applying to JR East stems from my desire to contribute to improving the areas around stations and revitalizing local communities. I want to create attractive towns starting from the stations themselves, where many people gather, serving as hubs for community interaction, making them comfortable places to live, and inviting many people to visit.
The area around Tokyo Station where I currently work is a tourist destination in itself, and many people visit Tokyo Station as their entire destination. I find it rewarding to see people's anxieties dispelled by my guidance and to see them set off on their journeys with smiles on their faces.
In the future, I would like to challenge myself in the lifestyle and service business. Also, our company has various project teams within the station. I intend to actively take on projects, utilizing what I have learned from interacting with customers.

In a free and diverse environment, it can be used by many people.
The opportunity to develop services is what I find rewarding.
TeamLab, the company I joined, is a company that values "freedom," and its members and working styles are diverse. I decided to join because I was attracted to this free and diverse environment. My job is to develop services in the technology field as an engineer. There are many challenging aspects, such as studying the latest technologies and dealing with errors, but the work of being able to release the services I have been involved in to the world as output is exciting and very rewarding. Collaboration with team members is essential when advancing projects, and the communication skills I honed through group work and discussions at university are useful in my current job. I would like to continue challenging myself with new things and create valuable services that many people can use.

I want to utilize the knowledge and initiative I gained at university to contribute to disseminating information about Nagano Prefecture and its future development.
My university life in Nagano made me realize anew the charm of Nagano Prefecture, and my desire to pass on its rich nature and way of life to future generations was a major reason why I decided to work for Nagano Prefecture. Currently, I work in the Sports Division, where I promote Nagano Prefecture's activities using the website and other means, and disseminate sports information. I am also involved in the preparations for the 82nd National Sports Festival and the 27th National Para Sports Festival to be held in Nagano Prefecture in 2028. Administrative work requires a great deal of knowledge, and it cannot be done without a proactive mindset. I feel that the administrative knowledge I gained from taking civil service courses during my university years, and the sense of initiative I developed during my first year of full-time dormitory life, have been very useful in my current job. I hope to continue promoting the charm of Nagano Prefecture and contribute to its development.

University of Study: Graduate School of Social Innovation The University of Nagano University

Shiki Kawamukai
What motivates student-led community and business activities? I'm exploring this through creating learning environments (practical experience) and graduate school research.
Since high school, I've been interested in youth community activities. During my undergraduate years, I was involved in various organizations and activities, such as coordinating inquiry-based learning at high schools in Nagano City and managing a shared house for people who wanted to be active in the community. I decided to pursue graduate studies after hearing about the establishment plans from my professor in charge of my specialized seminar, and I took the entrance exam for the newly established graduate school this April. I was accepted. Graduate school is a university for working adults where classmates from diverse backgrounds gather, so not only are the discussions in class stimulating, but even reading the reflection sheets of my fellow working adult graduate students is inspiring. While conducting research as a graduate student in classes held in the evenings and on Saturdays, I spend the rest of my time working through the company I founded during my undergraduate years, coordinating community-based practical internships in Nagano City. I would like to continue to advance my practice and research, and engage in activities that contribute to the relationship between young people and their communities.
