Miwa Campus

The entire Miwa Campus

The entire campus is a learning space.
Communication spaces are strategically placed throughout the vast learning environment, creating a new learning environment that fosters diverse interactions. The building is primarily three stories high, with some sections incorporating two or four stories, taking into consideration harmony with the surrounding environment, the learning environment, and evacuation safety.

Learning facilities

There are various learning facilities on campus.

Media Plaza

Located next to the Global Center, it spearheads global learning, including language studies. There are also dedicated booths for language learning using Skype.

lecture room

In the bright, open lecture halls with glass walls, classes are held that encourage active student participation.

Campus Common

Based on the concept of active learning, it provides a space where students can learn anywhere.

Laboratory

Our university places a strong emphasis on practical training, and we have well-equipped practical training facilities, including two cooking practice rooms, a nutrition education practice room, and a clinical nutrition practice room.

Learning Hall

Equipped with two large screens and a projector, the space can be used for student events and presentations. One entire wall of the doorway is a whiteboard, allowing for discussions to be conducted by writing down discussion points with whiteboard pens, or by attaching sticky notes and large sheets of paper. Facing the courtyard, the space offers a chance to experience the changing seasons.

library

A collection of over 100,000 books to support learning and research.
Many of the books are on open shelves, allowing you to pick up and read them directly, which is a major attraction. Library staff will provide support in using the book search system, how to search the database, and if you can't find the literature you need. The library also has areas where you can study individually or in groups using computers.
The library is open to the general public as well as students.

Opening hours
Weekdays: 8:30am - 8pm
Saturday: 8:30am - 5pm
Closed days
Closed during inventory periods, Sundays, public holidays, and the New Year period.
Lending
You will need your student ID to borrow library materials. Please bring the materials you wish to borrow and your student ID to the counter.
For more detailed information on how to use the library, please visit the library's website.

design

The old library at Nagano Prefectural College and the new library are connected by a covered walkway.
The new library uses locally sourced timber for the ceilings and walls, creating a warm and inviting space where you can relax and read in a quiet and academic atmosphere.
On the other hand, there are also booths available for group study and other activities.

Information Search Corner

You can quickly search for the books you need. You can see not only their availability but also whether they are currently checked out.

Individual research booth

This space is popular with students because it allows them to concentrate on their studies and research.

Group study room

Since it's a private room, it can also be used as a space for group work during seminars. You can concentrate more deeply and absorb knowledge more effectively.

Extensive Reading Corner by Level

You can practice "extensive reading," a method of improving your language skills by reading many easy foreign language books that match your own abilities.

University cafeteria

The university cafeteria, which makes generous use of local materials, is a large space that can accommodate approximately 300 people at a time.
Counter table seats (with power outlets) are also available near the terrace so that even those dining alone can feel comfortable.

University cafeteria

Available time
The restaurant is open to everyone.
Weekdays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
How to use
Payment is generally accepted only via Edy (or embedded in the student ID card for students).

design

A wooden deck is installed on the terrace.
On sunny days, you can enjoy meals and breaks while getting some fresh air outside.

Kids' space

Adjacent to the classrooms of Department of Child Development and Education, we have set up a space where local parents and children can spend time together.
Additionally, a water play area is set up at the north entrance of the children's space, where children can enjoy playing in the water during the summer.

Children's space

Who can use it and how to use it
The usage methods and hours for children who are not yet enrolled in kindergarten or nursery school, and their guardians, will be determined in accordance with the curriculum of Department of Child Development and Education, and registration will be conducted in advance.
Regarding the use of the play area and picture book space
The plaza can only be used during events. The picture book space can also be used outside of events, but only if a student or faculty member who has been notified in advance is present.
If you would like to use the facility for a purpose other than an event, please request it using the online form.
For inquiries, please contact us at this email address.

Please refer to the Terms of Use for details on how to use the service.

design

The entire space is designed to give off the warmth of wood, and is equipped with underfloor heating and wooden bookshelves.
There is also a children's toilet within the space where children can play freely.

Other facilities

Learning Commons

Lectures, presentations, discussions, and group study can be held not only in classrooms, but also in corridors connecting lecture halls and seminar rooms, as well as in shared spaces. Students can have discussions while enjoying tea, and professors' research labs are designed with glass walls, making them easily accessible.

Japanese-style room

It can also be used as a tea room. Perfect for entertaining guests from overseas.

Arena

The meticulous design is evident throughout the campus. For example, the roof of the arena (gymnasium) is inspired by apple leaves, a specialty product of Nagano Prefecture. It evokes the image of lush, young leaves.

Sustainable Campus

A sustainable campus that takes advantage of the climate and natural features of Shinshu.
The campus incorporates technologies that reduce CO2 emissions and utilize renewable energy.
*This project has been selected for the "Leading Project for Sustainable Buildings, etc." under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
