English education (English Program for Global Mobility)

English Program for Global Mobility Skills

At our university, students take two types of English courses concurrently over two years. One is called Accuracy courses, which focus on understanding the structure of English more accurately. The other is Fluency courses, which are communication courses conducted entirely in English by native English-speaking instructors, with each class lasting 100 minutes and conducted entirely in English.
In the English classes, which are held four times a week for 100 minutes each (twice a week from the second semester of the second year for students in Faculty of Health and Human Development), the class size is approximately 25 students, creating a close relationship between students and instructors. This allows students to improve their English communication skills while receiving attentive and consistent support.

Whether you want to use English in your future career or you have difficulty with English, our level-based classes allow you to learn at your own pace, and we provide a fulfilling environment where you can improve your English skills regardless of your individual differences at the time of enrollment.

A 2-year English Program for Global Mobility (example from Faculty of Global Management Studies)

Upon completing the two-year program, you will be able to engage in discussions, write emails and essays, and give presentations entirely in English. English Program for Global Mobility enhances your English skills in preparation for Overseas Program and cultivates communication abilities across all four language skills to connect with people around the world.

Student Voices

There is a lot of group work, making it enjoyable and allowing you to deepen your learning.

I believe I was able to develop a wide range of practical English skills, from basic greetings to business expressions for conveying my opinions. There was a lot of group work, which made learning enjoyable and enriching.
With 200 minutes of classes conducted entirely in English each week, you'll develop strong English communication skills before you know it.

Ayane Miyagawa, 3rd year student Faculty of Global Management Studies

Overseas Program allowed me to confidently interact with local students and company representatives.

You will learn the knowledge and skills necessary for smooth communication in a class that matches your level.
Because I was able to gain practical experience, I was able to confidently interact with local students and company representatives during Overseas Program in my second year.

Haruki Iwamura, 3rd year student, Faculty of Global Management

I have a dream of working as a childcare provider overseas in the future.

I believe the strength of English language learning at The University of Nagano lies in the fact that students can learn English that is relevant to their chosen field of study. Thanks to this, I became interested in childcare abroad and now have a dream of working in childcare overseas in the future.
I'm currently preparing to work as an au pair in the United States!

Wakako Tanabe, 4th year student, Department Department of Child Development and Education Faculty of Health and Human Development

Growth in English proficiency among Nagano Prefectural University students

All students take the TOEIC Listening & Reading test three times: upon enrollment, at the end of their first year, and at the end of their second year. Their scores are used to assess their progress in English proficiency. The score improvements of our students (shown by the blue, red, and orange lines in the graph) significantly exceed the national average score for universities.
